Another name for Samuel was Samuel Carey.9 11 12 General Notes: Samuel Cary was taken prisioner by the Indians at the Wyoming Massacure, July 3, 1778, carried to Canada, remaining in captivity six years, and returning home to old Careytown, near Wilkesbarre. Noted events in his life were: • Military Service: Capt Bidlack's Co, 13 Jul 1778, , , Pennsylvania, United States. 1 13 He enlisted in Capt. Bidlack's Company, and was taken prisoner by the Indians at the massacre, July 3, 1778. His life was spared on account of his bravery, and he was adopted by the Chief, whose son was killed in the battle, and was given the name of Coconeunquo. He was taken to Canada and remained there four years; falling sick on account of great hardships and an almost entire lack of food, he was set on a stump to be shot, when an old squaw bought him and nursed him back to life, and also aided him to escape; he was captured by the English and kept a prisoner till the cose of the war.
